I grew up in the 70's and 80's and what a great time that was. My roots were established in the funk and disco age. I matured through new wave and found Chicago House Music in the 90s. I met a Chicago Dj named Ron Hardy though a friend who was impressed with my knowledge of black music of the 70's (Earth Wind and Fire, Kool and the Gang, Commodores, etc..). Amused at my knowledge of "Funky Music" he introduced me to another Dj named Frankie Knuckles. He told Frankie "Don't judge his blackness by the color of his skin." At the time I had no idea how iconic those two would be in the development of today's dance music.
I have been incredibly lucky throughout my career. I have been in the right place at the right time to many times to count. Filling in for a Dj (who was in the hospital) at Crobar in Chicago the same night Carl Cox was playing was my greatest /lucky accomplishment. While at an area Emergency Room I met a club owner in Milwaukee. We were talking and 2 weeks later I was performing as the 8pm to 11pm DJ at Milwaukees hottest club.
In 2015 I relaunched myself as Slang Cove. I am performing most Friday and Saturday nights at The Crimson Club located at 7211 W. Greenfield in West Allis, WI which is Milwaukee areas newest hot spot. It is very reminiscent of the clubs of the 90s that I knew and loved, so to play there is alot of fun.
In 1997 I was in my Late 20's and realized that my family needed more stability than music could provide. I was offered a few residencies over the years but I mostly fill in where ever needed.
I owned a mobile dj service from 1999 to 2004 which catered to house parties and outdoor parties that wanted more dance music than the general "wedding music." I did do weddings as well, but mine were way more fun than your typical dj service.
Ya feel me?
I'm the DJ.
